Springtime is here!

Navigating the Closing of a Chapter

We talk a lot about our kids "firsts." The first word, step, trip to the strawberry patch and so on. But we don't talk much about the subsequent words, steps & trips. Why is that? As I navigate my current phase of motherhood, I find myself grieving the firsts of my second, potentially last baby. This is a new experience for me because with my first, I had another baby on the way to look forward to those milestones from the time she was 6 months old.

I'm learning that while those feelings of sadness about a first being over are so valid, "firsts" are not over. As they grow, they experience the same place differently as they have new skills each time they visit. For example, the first trip to the strawberry patch included a ride in the carrier, the next one was full of muddy shoes as she navigated the field herself and this third trip was full of excitement as she picked her own berries & snacked on a few as we picked.

All this to say, every phase has both its challenges & beauty. I am preaching to myself when I say, enjoy each step as it comes & goes. Lean into your village for support in the hard & celebrate the triumphs. Motherhood is full of beauty, vulnerability, growth & most importantly grace for your kids & yourself.

You're doing great, mama! And if you want a community to stand in the gaps with you, there's a place for you here.

Toddler Activity

Outside time has been my best friend the last few weeks since the weather has been so nice and springy! Everyone is happier outside & it makes nap time so much easier when everybody is a little sun kissed and worn out.

Butterfly wings were a hit this week in our house. Take a paper grocery bag and cut out the shape of butterfly wings(or dragonfly wings). Have your toddler decorate the wings with markers, paint or whatever you have on hand. Punch holes and feed string through the middle, tie around their waist & send them outside to take flight! Simple and easy way to encourage creativity & even gives you the opportunity to teach them a little bit about the butterfly and its life cycle!
